from £1699Budva is a lively resort, with a handful of first-class beaches to pick from. The old town is characterised by Venetian houses, bell towers and shady piazzas. The oldest part of Budva has been in existence since around 400BC and since then, its swapped hands several times – Greeks, Romans, Slavs, Venetians, Turks, Saracens and Austrians have all made their presence known. The Old Town (Stari Grad) is Budva’s showstopper, offering winding streets, historic churches and a centuries-old citadel to explore. But this walled fortress is also the ideal place to sit back and relax with a drink, or enjoy a spot of souvenir shopping in the quaint shops. There are spacious beaches and the resort is filled with restaurants, bars, pavement cafes and shops - there really are plenty of things to do in Budva.
Cuisine-wise, Montenegro has an extraordinary choice of dishes to show off. As you’re on the coast, perhaps you will want to try some of the seafood dishes in one of the harbourside restaurants. Squid, octopus, tuna, shrimp and mussels are almost guaranteed to be prepared to perfection - black risotto with cuttlefish is worth asking for if you're seeking inspiration or something a little different.
Although you’ll find no shortage of things to see and do in Budva itself, it also makes an ideal base for exploring other parts of the country. Spend a day sailing the spectacular Kotorska Fjord, – an awe-inspiring, fjord-like inlet that carves its way from the mountains out to sea. Enjoy time at sea and view the beautiful coastline from a different angle and enjoy some delicious seafood on our fish picnic by boat.
