Alpen Hotel, Wildschonau

The stunning Wildschonau is a high valley some 14 miles long and is situated in the heart of the Kitzbuhler Alps in the Austrian Tyrol. Wildschonau means wild and beautiful and it is certainly one of the most beautiful valleys in the Tyrol. Oberau is the main village in the valley.

The Hotel Alpen in Oberau is a friendly, family-run 3 star hotel with a typical Tyrolean ambience. Hotel Stangl, Thaur

The village of Thaur is located in the Inntal Valley at the foot of the Nordkette mountain chain and is famous for its customs and traditions, particularly at Christmastime. The village dates back to the 9th century and its church is the oldest preserved church building in the Tyrol. Today Thaur is a pleasant holiday resort with rural charm. The village is famous in Austria for the handmade ‘Christmas Cribs of Thaur’ - Oriental mountains, painted backgrounds and well-known figurines are depicted in these cribs.

The 3 star Hotel Stangl is a genteel, country-style hotel well located in Thaur. Meals are taken in the hotel’s refined, wood-paneled restaurant which has an old-world vibe. During our stay we have arranged a programme of included and optional excursions and visits, all taken at a leisurely pace.

Fly to Austria

Your holiday begins with the flight to Salzburg from your chosen UK airport. You will then be transferred to our hotel.

Today we have arranged an included excursion to Salzburg. We’ll have plenty of time for sightseeing in this beautiful city. There is also a very good shopping centre - ideal for that last minute gift! We’ll return to our hotel in time for dinner.

Leisure Day

Today is at leisure. Perhaps take a chairlift or cable car up to the heights, explore the shops, have a drink in one of the cafes and bars or simply relax in the comfortable surroundings of the hotel.

This morning we have a half day excursion to Kitzbuhel. There is a good choice of shops here and a Christmas market - ideal for finding that last minute gift! This afternoon you can relax and unwind in the comfortable surroundings of our hotel, or perhaps make some more discoveries in our Tyrolean village resort. Enjoy a mug of hot chocolate or perhaps a gluhwein in one of the village’s cafes or bars. This evening a traditional Austrian dinner will be served in the hotel. Later this evening, you may wish to join the local congregation for the church service.

Happy Christmas! After a hearty breakfast there will be plenty of time to open your presents. A little later today wrap up wam for an enjoyable horse drawn sleigh ride. This evening in the hotel we have our festive Roast Turkey Christmas Dinner.

Not to be missed is our excursion to Innsbruck - the Tyrolean Capital. We’ll have a guided walking tour around the trafficfree ‘Old Town’, with its beautiful ornate buildings and the unique Golden Roof. Afterwards there will be time to explore the Christmas markets, browse in the shops along the Maria Theresian Strasse or relax in a friendly café.

Weather permitting, today’s fantastic coach tour takes us past high mountains and through snow covered valleys. This lake is famous for the clarity of echos which can be heard up to seven times and we’ll have a cruise on the lake by boat. We’ll return to the hotel with time to relax before our farewell dinner.
